We recently assessed a project where the homeowners were excited about their new build. The architectural plans looked great, but when we reviewed them, we could see straight away that the design wasn’t going to work in reality.
At Shiel Developments, we work closely with homeowners to spot problems early so they don’t face expensive fixes later.
The problem: A design that would have caused major issues
On paper, the plans looked impressive, but when we started reviewing the details, some big issues became clear:
The layout didn’t flow properly. Spaces that should have felt open and connected were awkward and impractical.
Poor insulation choices meant the home wouldn’t be as efficient as it could be, leading to high running costs.
The external finishes weren’t thought through, meaning the home would need additional work to achieve the desired look.
Had the homeowners gone ahead with these plans, they would have spent a fortune fixing problems that could have been avoided with expert input at the start.
How we’re fixing it
Rather than tearing up the plans completely, we’re working with the homeowners and their architects to make practical improvements before the build begins. This includes reworking the layout to improve the flow and functionality of the space, upgrading the insulation and materials to make the home energy-efficient and comfortable to live in, plus we’re refining the external finishes to make sure the final build aligns with the homeowner’s vision.
By getting involved early, we’re saving the homeowners time, money and stress while ensuring the home will actually work for them once built.
